1855, First US Edition. New York : Harper & Bros. Good copies both in original half calf over marbled boards, now somewhat dust-dulled and abraded. Spines gilt-tooled with raised bands and leather labels; labels and bottom compartments sympathetically restored, with lower original compartments lifting and partly lacking. Corners bumped; endbands rubbed. Marbled endpapers and edges, the latter faded. A single small area of worming affects first six leaves of vol. 2; text legible. Vol. 1 added engraved title page somewhat foxed, with flyleaf offset. Text blocks tight, with only faint expected foxing and offsetting of age. A well-preserved example overall. Item #466201
