Boards dust-dulled, with rear joint vol. 1 showing a tight, closed tear. Both hinges vol. 1 and front hinge vol. 2 starting. Edges, preliminary and final leaves substantially foxed, with interiors sound and strikingly clean. Folded matter remains crisp. Despite ample use, an attractive and serviceable set. Provenance: the set of L. A. Vaillant, with his autograph to each volume, the first dated 1878. Item #465383
