1851, First Edition. London : John Murray. Good, tight copies only, in contemporary cloth boards, somewhat dust-dulled and slightly rubbed along the edges. Paper labels mounted to the spines, now tanned and slightly worn; the spine cloth is slightly sun-toned. Endbands heavily worn, showing minor loss. Rear joint of volume 3 split, with the spine cover pivoting on the front hinge. Some hinges cracked, with stitching holding secure on all volumes. Frontispiece and title page of volume 1 coming loose. Preliminary and final leaves somewhat foxed; otherwise only isolated marginal foxing. Remains a very serviceable set overall.
