First format (Deep honey limp cloth, "six pence" printed under the front cover design, 17.5x11.8cm). Pale grey endpapers. Design in black outline (on front cover only): an architectural frame, along the base the imprint under two facing songbirds among stylised roses and leaves. Above the birds a second, superimposed frame with upward-curving base containing the title; above this, below the top of the architectural frame, the series title. Spine with title only. All lettering in sans serif capitals. Unsigned (LO/C32). Bound with the publisher's advertisement for The Plain Text Poets, with a dropped capital designed by Talwin Morris as used in The Red Letter Shakespeare. Subjects; "Bird motif". "Rose motif".
